Halloween is BY FAR my most favorite holiday! I love everything about it! It’s also the ONLY holiday where I go all out with decorations. Kari (ya know my sister) came over after I had just finished dolling spooking up my mantel and she all but threatened me with untold harm if I didn’t show it off to you lovely people {those of you who know me know that I am all about showing off ;) }.
So…here it is!
First of all, I had to keep the bridal photo up there because the sun has faded it far beyond the normal sepia tone it used to be so it looks old. I tilted it a bit and draped the raggy cheese cloth over it. OH…and I DID NOT dust it. Scary right? Nah, mainly just lazy. You can’t see it too well, but I cut out like 25 bats from black vinyl and placed them along the sides of the fireplace…to make it look like they are flying around the fireplace!!
I snagged this wooden panel from an old door in my grandmother’s basement and put a vinyl raven/branch design on it. Then I spray painted it black and took the vinyl off. Viola…really rad Halloween art! The creepy burlap wreath was actually made for this month’s CREATE WITH ME and I thought it would look killer hangin’ above the mantel.
I made the wooden decorative SPOOKY letters when I worked at a local scrapbook store (years ago). The letters are just cut out of wood, paper is decoupaged with Mod Podge, and then I embellished the heck out of them. Cute, huh?
The skeletons sitting on the mantel are a score from Tai Pan’s clearance a couple years back. They are tea light holders!! The board with the vinyl skeleton is a really beaten up corkboard that I covered with a drop cloth and embellished with upholstery nails. All the other odds and ends are from a thrift shop, found around the house, or even off the street. :)
So there you have it: My Halloween Mantel. Enjoy!
